Petrospection have extensive cargo surveying experience and are highly active in this field, predominately for petroleum and petrochemical bulk liquid cargoes and to a lesser extent, dry bulk cargoes.

Various forms of cargo surveys have been performed by Petrospection for major local and international companies since the formation of the company in 1993. The Petrospection team is backed by the partners Steve Ford and Alan Gluyas who have 40 years of combined experience in cargo surveying; a large proportion of these years spent at management level within major inspection companies.

Petrospection is extensively involved in providing operational, technical and consultation services in a diverse range of areas within the petroleum and petrochemical industry. This provides an ideal background and experience for conducting cargo surveys. In particular, Petrospection's involvement in tanker loading and discharge terminal operations is directly associated with the duties of a cargo surveyor, as are Bill of Lading/Outturn documentation, software development, terminal audit, terminal inventory, tank calibration and laboratory analysis activities.

The experience of Petrospection surveyors will often allow them to identify potential problems before they arise and contribute to a more efficient and safer operation overall.

As cargo surveyors, Petrospection recognise the need to maintain an independent position and that the provision of frequent and accurate communication is essential.

For specific operations, and provided there is full agreement (and appointment) between all involved parties, Petrospection will simultaneously conduct terminal operations, outturn/Bill of Lading determination and cargo surveying functions during ship/shore and inter-terminal transfer operations. Clients may prefer this arrangement for the economical benefits, simplified lines of communication and reduced quality assurance and documentation issues that are achieved by not using multiple contractors.

A Petrospection report provides a comprehensive record of a cargo transfer operation. For a petroleum/petrochemical marine cargo, a quality/quantity report would typically be comprised of the following sections: -

Summary of Operations (Executive Summary)
Inspection Report (General Operation Notes)
Analysis Report
Samples Report
Time Log
Summary of Outturn/Loading
Shore Tank Quantity Report
Ship's Ullage Report
Vessel's OBQ/ROB Report
Vessel Experience Factor
Relevant associated ship and shore documentation
Protest/Notice of Apparent Discrepancy
